BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — There is some good news when it comes to what you will pay for crawfish this week.

Crawfish prices went down this week by 50 cents per pound, according to Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App mobile app. The average price for live crawfish stands at $2.99 per pound in Louisiana.

“It’s now easy to find live crawfish in the $2.50 – $2.75 per pound range in most metro areas on The Crawfish App,” said King.

If you want boiled crawfish, the average price you can expect to pay is around $5.29 per pound, according to King.

It was only two weeks ago that the average price for boiled crawfish was $5.99 per pound and customers paid an average price of $3.99 per pound for live crawfish.

Mother’s Day is coming up and King suggested that you may want to get your crawfish this weekend.

“Let us share a lesson from crawfish season history — prices tend to go up the week leading up to Mother’s Day, which is right around the corner, due to the extremely high demand that week,” said King.  “So if you’ve been waiting to boil crawfish, do it THIS weekend while you can guarantee these prices. The size is great too, and the sunshine is out, so you can’t go wrong.”

The average prices for live and boiled crawfish come from The Crawfish App analyzing more than 800 crawfish businesses in the state.
