Avengers star Josh Brolin WILL play Deadpool 2's Cable
Deadpool 2's hugely-publicised casting search for X-Force leader Cable has ended with Avengers star Josh Brolin landing the coveted role.
A spokesperson for Brolin has confirmed to Digital Spy that he will star opposite the Merc with a Mouth himself Ryan Reynolds and fellow newcomer Zazie Beetz in the upcoming X-Men Universe blockbuster.
According to reports today (April 12), Josh Brolin has signed a four-movie deal with 20th Century Fox to play the time-travelling mutant assassin over the next several years.
Aside from Deadpool 2, Cable is expected to be featured heavily in the upcoming X-Men spinoff X-Force and will likely appear in future Deadpool sequels as well.
This multi-picture contract means that Brolin will be a major figure in both of Marvel's current cinematic universes. Because of contractual rights, 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies are set in their own continuity unrelated to Marvel Studios' Avengers movies.
Leave it up to Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds to make the best joke about it all. "The f**k, Fox!" he tweeted tonight. "You can't play 2 characters in the same universe!! Josh Brolin was in Sicario and I was in Sabrina The Teenage Witch."

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brolin plays Thanos - the mad titan who has been the key to bringing together the cosmic mysticism of Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy with the earth-bound heroism of The Avengers.
Thanos has thus far only been teased as a figure in the shadows in the MCU, but he will take centre stage to battle the Avengers, the Guardians and Doctor Strange in next year's Infinity War movie.

The casting search for Cable has encompassed several of Hollywood's biggest stars over the last year. If the various reports are to be believed, Brolin won the part over Brad Pitt, former 007 Pierce Brosnan, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe and Stranger Things' David Harbour. Quite an accomplishment!
In case you need a Marvel refresher, Cable - aka Nathan Summers - is the time-travelling son of X-Men leader Cyclops and his one-time wife Madelyne Pryor who returns to his own past in hopes of saving mutant kind. He also happens to be the wise-cracking Deadpool's best bud.
Deadpool 2 is expected to film this year for release in 2018.
