After years of murmurs and rumours, cult Australian electronic band The Avalanches will be playing their first show in 15 years at Byron Bay's Splendour In The Grass in July.

The shock announcement, which follows insane excitement over the outfit's Facebook cover photo change yesterday, also comes with dates at the Primevera Sound Festival in Barcelona on Jun. 3 and Field Day in London on Jun. 12.

It's unfortunately still unknown if there is new music The Avalanches to come. The suggestion has been teased in 2011 and again in 2012

The line-up is arguably the most thrilling in years, featuring indie superstars such as The Strokes and The Cure, modern icons Flume and Courtney Barnett, and swift local up-and-comers such as Mall Grab, Roland Tings and Ngaiire.

It'll be taking place across three days on Jul. 22, 23 and 24, set across the oft-muddy surroundings of the 660-acre North Byron Parklands. Although nowhere near as muddy as Glastonbury, let's be honest.

Tickets go on sale from Apr. 21 from 9 a.m. AEST, so get those refresh button fingers ready, and hold your breath for the huge line up below.
