Authorities searching for suspect in Lockeford shooting

Mar. 22—LOCKEFORD — The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in locating a man wanted for a shooting that occurred in Lockeford earlier this week.

Shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies responded to the report of a shooting incident between family members in the 19000 block of N. Jack Tone Road.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man suffering a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Deputies determined the victim was hot by his step-son, later identified as 24-year-old Brendan Stiles Briggs of Lockeford.

Briggs fled the scene and refused to meet with deputies, and is now wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as several weapons charges, reports state.

He was last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and black pants, and was carrying a red Adidas backpack. He possibly fled on a black and white Huffy bicycle, reports state.

This is the second time Briggs has been sought for attempted homicide in the last few years, as he was arrested by Merced Police Department officers in February of 2022, according to ABC30 in Fresno.

Police said Briggs shot a 27-year-old man in the leg after "some sort of argument," according to ABC30

At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, the news station reported.

Along with the attempted murder charge and weapons charges stemming from the Lockeford incident, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said Briggs is also wanted on a no-bail warrant out of Merced County for carrying a loaded weapon.

According to San Joaquin County Superior Court records, Briggs was arrested on suspicion of hit and run with property damage in March of 2019, and then for domestic violence in June of that year.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance in June of 2022 as well.

Anyone with information regarding the Lockeford shooting is asked to call the Sheriff's Office non-emergency line 209-468-4400, and press option 1.
