Authorities investigating death of ICE detainee

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are investigating after a U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee died on Wednesday.

Around 2:45 a.m. on May 12, corrections deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office were doing a standard well-being check and found 39-year-old Hugo Boro Urla attempting to commit suicide.

Deputies began performing CPR and jail medical staff continued until he was taken to the hospital where he died on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.

A cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Calhoun County Medical Examiner.
