Australia's Prime Minister catches a tram, no one seems to care who he is

In other nations, you'd expect top political leaders to be travelling in a convoy of dark cars, surrounded by hordes of law enforcement and secret service-type figures.

Not in Australia. Its prime minister is content with just hopping on the tram between engagements, while the public does not even bat an eyelid.

Hanging out with the regular folk, Malcolm Turnbull has been snapped waiting for a tram after completing an interview Friday with announcer Neil Mitchell of radio station 3AW.

"Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull incidentally arrived by tram today," Mitchell said, before asking Turnbull how his trip went. "The travel was good, and I'll be leaving by tram too. Yes, my Myki card doesn't need to be used anymore," Turnbull replied, referring to Melbourne's free tram zone within the city.

Turnbull is a long-time fan of public transport around Australia, catching buses, trains, ferries and trams to engagements before he became prime minister. Despite the unlimited chauffeuring the top job offers, Turnbull is quite content not always taking up the offer.

Only in Australia, once again.
