An investigation is underway after a 12-year-old Australian boy flew alone to Bali after a row with his parents.

The boy, from Sydney, reportedly used his parents’ credit card to book flights and accommodation online and managed to fly to Bali via Perth alone, presenting only his passport and school ID.

According to the Nine Network, he used a self-service check-in machine in Sydney.

He told the channel’s A Current Affair programme: “They just asked for my student ID and passport to prove that I am over 12 and that I am in secondary school.”

The boy then apparently told immigration in Bali that his mum was waiting outside before checking into his hotel room by telling staff he was waiting for his sister.

According to Nine, he spent four days in Bali including even hiring a motorbike, and was tracked down thanks to a photo and video he posted that helped authorities find him.

He was found in Bali on March 17, with authorities in Australia apparently confirming that he had been reported missing nine days earlier.
