Here are the top stories in Austin today:

  1. The Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees recently approved two additional paid days off for teachers and campus staff, which will be effective starting in the spring. The days off will be Friday, Feb. 11 and Friday, March 4. District officials said that this year has been very tough for educators and staff due to the Omicron wave, which has affected schools district-wide, so they wanted to give them a break.   2. This Friday, Feb. 4, Tickets will go on sale on ticketmaster.com for Netflix’s Cheer cast, who will be in Austin on Sunday, June 12 during their national Cheer Live 2022 Tour. The cast of cheerleaders from Navarro College and Trinity Valley Community College will perform at the Moody Center that day, and "Navarro coach and Dancing with the Stars alum Monica Aldama will make a special guest appearance." Aldama and Navarro assistant coach, Andy Cosferent, are the creators of the show. Presale tickets begin 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 until 10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3.   3. After 25 years, Spider House Café, located at 2908 Fruth St. near the University of Texas at Austin campus, has permanently closed its doors. Spider House's former proprietor, Conrad Bejarano, said "there was never a closure announcement...for the possibility of reopening." However, "the café closed in March 2020 due to the pandemic and never reopened." Currently the place is empty and there is a "No Trespassing" sign on the door, but "Its website now focuses entirely on the brand's next-door music venue, Spider House Ballroom."
