Austin Antique Mall closes after 40 years in business

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Wednesday marks the last day in business for a long-time staple in the vintage world of Austin.

The Austin Antique Mall announced its imminent closure earlier this year, saying its final day for sales is Wednesday, May 15.

The Austin Antique Mall, an iconic institution for over 40 years, is closing the doors. We have had an amazing run, but we have reached the end. Thanks to Austin and all of our amazing customers and friends for making us a very successful, locally owned and operated business. Please stop by and shop for last minute treasures, or just to say hello and goodbye. Thank you Austin, Texas for carrying us for so many wonderful years. We will officially close to the public on May 15th, 2024.

The store did not provide a reason for the closure, but the Austin-American Statesman reported in February it will make way for an extension of Playland Skate Center next door.

Many people commented on the Facebook announcement, expressing sadness to see the business go.

“I’m so heartbroken. This has been my favorite store since I moved here in 2010,” one commenter said. “So many of you have helped me with props and wardrobe for photoshoots. Helped me add to my personal collections and more. I will always cherish this space. So sorry y’all have to close!”

The Austin Antique Mall is located at 8822 McCann Dr. in Austin near U.S. Highway 183, according to its Facebook page.
