AUS security checkpoint closed ahead of terminal expansion construction

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A security checkpoint at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is now closed to make way for improvements and expansion of the terminal.

TSA Checkpoint 3, on the far west end of the terminal, closed at 6 p.m. on Feb. 5 as part of the West Infill project to add more square footage to the terminal.

The checkpoint closure will last until the construction project is complete, with an anticipated completion date in 2026.

To offset the closure, Checkpoint 2 West has added two new lanes, using the scanners from the now-closed Checkpoint 3. Upon completion, the expanded Checkpoint 3 will have six to eight new lanes.

Travelers can also use Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2 East to access all gates. Pre-Check is available at Checkpoints 1 and 2 East, and Clear is available at Checkpoint 1.
