DENVER (KDVR) — A preparatory academy in the Aurora Public School District canceled class on Tuesday due to an alleged break-in.

According to the school’s website, classes were canceled due to a “break-in at the school, police investigation and clean up.”

Parents and staff should have been notified of the closure through their email, the school said.

The Aurora Police Department confirmed to FOX31 that officers responded to the school just before 5 a.m. Police said it was a burglary and vandalism call.

At this time, police do not have anyone in custody and suspect information is not available.

Ryan Adams, the principal at Aurora West College Preparatory Academy sent the following letter to parents:

Unfortunately, we had a break-in that happened last night at our school. There was significant damage done throughout our building. Due to the level of damage and because police need to investigate, we are unable to have school today. We will need to cancel all classes. Please do not come to our building.

We expect that the investigation will be completed and clean up will be
finished by the end of today. We will notify you as soon as possible if that is
not the case.

AWCPA staff members should complete work remotely from home as needed
and necessary. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for your
support.”

Ryan Adams, principal

The preparatory academy serves students in sixth through 12th grade and is in the Delmar Parkway neighborhood in Aurora.

This is a developing story. FOX31 has a crew on the way to the school.
