Aunt of Tampa shooting victim makes plea for young people to put their guns down

Tampa Police say they responded to a shooting at 10:43 pm Monday night at 39th Street and Genesee Street.
When officer arrived, they found two men who had been shot. Both men were transported to a local hospital, one of them is in critical condition.
Florence Murphy says that man is her nephew.
“He graduated from High School, he got a son. We are still in disbelief about what’s going on. We are trying to get to the bottom of it and find some answers,” said Murphy.
She had just returned from the hospital and says things are not looking good for her nephew.
” He’s fighting for his life. It’s just not looking to good right now. Just keep us all lifted up in prayer. It’s sad, it’s real, real sad,” said Murphy.
A short time later, at 11:00 pm, a short distance away, police were called to another scene with reports of a man waving a gun and threatening to shoot people. When officers arrived, he threatened to kill them.
Tampa Police say they took that man into custody. However, police say the incidents are not related.
Florence Murphy implored people in her neighborhood to put their guns down.
“Young generation, this message is for you guys. Please put the guns down, please. It’s senseless. Put the guns down, please,” said Murphy.
