Augusta Transit providing rides for voters to polls

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta Public Transit has been providing rides to the polls all day on Tuesday to make sure people are able to cast their ballots.

This is not the first time that Augusta Public Transit has provided these services on Election Day.

Residents say that these services have always been helpful.

“I believe it’s very important for the community, and we are thrilled to do that. Augusta is a staple for those kinds of things,” says Francheska McKnight, a Augusta Public Transit driver.

“It’s a good idea especially for the elderly,” says Myrtis Latson of Augusta.

“We want to make sure that the community knows that we’re here, and so the buses are running, and we like to support our communit,” says McKnight.

People had the chance to register for a time and location, before Election Day, in order to secure a ride to the polls.

“A lot of people have already been to vote. Some people have been going in, and we tell them to vote. So, they’ve been going into the parking lot and going in to vote. That is awesome,” says Tamika Boyd of Augusta.

Residents say that this is a great opportunity for everyone.

“I think it’s very important, and actually, I received a phone call this morning of some senior citizens, who would like to go out and vote, but they didn’t have transportation. Like I said, it’s a great idea overall because we do have a lot of young adults who are just able to vote. So, being able to have transportation provided to them, so it won’t be any reason why they can’t go vote because the transportation is available. So, I think that’s a great idea,” says Gwendolyn Golett of Augusta.

Voting ends at 7 P.M., and the full list of voting precincts are available here.
