Large scale solar facility at Augusta Planning Commission

VERONA – The Augusta County Planning Commission will take up a request to "construct and operate a large solar energy system" spread over five sites.

The fenced-in acreage of the project, the way solar energy systems are categorized in Augusta County, is approximately 470 acres. About 114 acres would be directly under panels. Including all other land uses, the total project acreage is 1,693, located in Urban Service Area or Community Development Area of the comprehensive plan.

According to the a memo on the project to the planning commission, the project would limit development on the 1,260 acres of property. If this property were developed in another way, the memo estimates Augusta Water would see an additional $4.8 million in water revenue over the next 35 years. The solar development would take this potential development revenue off the table.
