Attorneys for Brooks Houck file motion to move case from Nelson County

Attorneys for Brooks Houck filed a motion Thursday to move their client's case to a more impartial part of Kentucky, according to court documents.

Houck, who is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection to the 2015 disappearance of Crystal Rogers, is asking the court to move the case from Nelson County to Boyd County because it is outside of the scope of Louisville and Lexington media, which have covered the case extensively, and both counties have a similar demographic.

"Here, Brooks’ state and federal constitutional rights to due process, a fair trial, and impartial jury would be nullified should this case be tried in Nelson County or any county in Central Kentucky due to the nature and content of news coverage which has contaminated the potential jury pools in those areas," the motion states.

Houck, Rogers' ex-boyfriend and father of her youngest child, is one of the three people charged in connection to her disappearance. Rogers went missing around July 3, 2015, in Bardstown, Kentucky, and her car was later found abandoned with her keys, phone and purse on the Bluegrass Parkway, The Courier Journal previously reported.

"Shortly after Ms. Rogers’ disappearance, law enforcement myopically named Brooks as the sole person of interest in her disappearance," court documents state. "Nonetheless, Brooks cooperated fully with law enforcement, submitting to multiple interviews with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office in which he denied any involvementin Ms. Rogers’s disappearance."
