Attempted murder-suicide leaves 1 dead

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — At about 11:10 a.m. Monday, Grand Junction 911 dispatchers received a call from a man stating he shot his wife and was going to shoot himself.

Upon arriving at the residence, in the area of Olson Avenue and Cherry Lane, Grand Junction Police officers found a deceased man with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound was taken to the hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department and remains in critical condition.

Orchard Mesa Middle School was put under a shelter-in-place at the time of the incident which has since been lifted.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the identity of the deceased once the family has been notified.

This is an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. GJPD is in the early stages of the investigation; no further information is available at this time.
