'Attack on Titan' creator pleads with fans ahead of his convention appearance: 'Be kind to me'
“Attack on Titan” creator Hajima Isayama is taking necessary precautions ahead of his Anime NYC convention appearance, urging fans to “be kind to me” regardless of their opinions on the manga’s controversial ending.
Last Saturday, Isayama issued a personal statement on the official website of Kodansha, a Japanese publishing company that serializes popular manga series like “Attack on Titan.”
In his message, Isayama revealed that the manga was “heavily influenced by Hollywood movies, TV shows, and american [sic] culture,” and that he was “both hopeful and excited about” his first-ever trip to the United States.
He also addressed the polarizing response to the conclusion of his beloved manga series, expressing that he is receptive to honest opinions, as long as they are respectful.

“I am aware that the ending of Attack on Titan was quite controversial. I am open to receiving people’s honest opinions,” wrote Isayama. “However, I’d appreciate it if you’d be kind to me.”
“Attack on Titan” is a manga series set in a world where the last survivors of the human race struggle to survive against hordes of bloodthirsty giants called Titans. The series is notorious for keeping its fans on their toes with subversive twists and turns that expand the series' size and scope. While the last chapter was published in 2021, the manga’s anime adaptation is set to air its final season next year.
