An agent from the partisan Atesh movement destroyed telecommunications equipment near Smolensk, Russia, Atesh reported on Telegram on May 23.

"An agent from our movement destroyed an external telecommunications cabinet of a communication tower in the village of Stanychky near Smolensk," the message said.

The damage disrupted the communication systems of the Russian Armed Forces' 49th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, which rely on the tower, the group said.

The incident could destabilize military command systems in the oblast and significantly weaken Russia's air defense system.

Military targets in the Moscow Military District are also now more vulnerable, Atesh added.

"We expect unidentified drones in the area," Atesh warned.
