Astoria approves water connection to Tongue Point for new Coast Guard cutters

The Astoria City Council on Monday voted to approve a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Coast Guard, expanding water service to Tongue Point to welcome new fast response cutters.

Tongue Point is located outside of city limits, but within the city’s urban growth boundary.

In 2022, the Coast Guard awarded a $30 million contract to expand facilities at Tongue Point in preparation for two new 154-foot cutters, which typically operate with 24 crewmembers.
