Astonishing Video Captures Driver Narrowly Escaping a Landslide in Taiwan

This looks like a CGI creation straight out of Hollywood, but it's actually dash cam footage out of Taiwan, showing what has to be the luckiest driver on Earth. 

First, the car just misses being hit head-on by a landslide, and seconds later, escapes being crushed by a boulder twice its size. In the aftermath, at least one passenger can be seen exiting the car to inspect his vehicle.

Taiwan has been besieged by heavy rains this week courtesy of Tropical Storm Kong-Rey, resulting in mass flooding, road closures and landslides. On Thursday, the storm dumped 19 inches of rain on the country, causing second-story flooding in some of the hardest hit regions.

Locals have been on high alert for falling rocks and mudslides, but not all have been as lucky as the vehicle in the video above.

Reports out of the region claim at least three people have died as a result of the damage caused by flooding, and in the southern region, at least a dozen people were hurt in a train derailment triggered by landslides.

Kong-Rey is the second tropical storm to hit Taiwan this month. Last week, its predecessor, Trumi, dumped 39 inches of rain on the southern region of the island. While Kong-Rey has since moved on and dissipated, it's left millions of dollars of damage in its wake.
