Arkansas Storm Team Weather Blog: Rain and storms return into late-week, some of which could be severe
Hopefully you’re able to get out and enjoy all the sunshine we have in store on Tuesday. As we head into mid-week, the chance for rain and storms returns. This time, rain chances look to stick around for several days in a row. In fact, those rain chances may increase even more into late-week and the upcoming weekend.
Of course, the next question is always: What about severe weather? Well, it is that time of year. And yes, that does appear to be a possibility on Friday and perhaps again on Sunday.
As of now, the Storm Prediction Center has already highlighted much of western Arkansas in a “low” risk for severe storms on Friday. The timing of this appears to be late-afternoon and evening with storms likely weakening as they press into central Arkansas overnight Friday into Saturday.
But behind this risk does not come much reprieve. Heading into Saturday, a few hit-or-miss storms will be possible. But it appears the atmosphere will be in “reset” mode, which may result in another round of strong to severe storms on Sunday.
At the moment, the Storm Prediction Center does not have an area highlighted for Sunday’s risk. But we believe that will change as time moves forward.
Even in the days leading up to Friday’s severe risk, there could be a few rogue strong storms that may prompt severe thunderstorm warnings. In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if a few storms on Wednesday are capable of producing large hail and damaging wind.
All this said, stay with the Arkansas Storm Team in the coming days as we iron out the details on these risks: especially those on Friday and Sunday. With the pattern we appear to be moving into, there could be risks for damaging wind, hail as well as tornadoes.
