Seeking Warmth and Fashion Inspiration? Try the Oversized Puffer

A$AP Rocky is a pretty stylish dude; in his own words, a “fashion killa.” Having made history as the first person of color to book a Dior Homme campaign back in June (he got his second campaign just this month) after establishing a name for himself wearing a combination of buzzy designers as well as niche ones, he’s a veritable force in the industry. So it’s little wonder that he’s wearing one of this winter’s biggest outerwear trends on the streets of New York.

“Raf Simons, Rick Owens, usually what I’m dressed in,” Rocky rapped in his early hit “Peso.” And that’s still true: Photographed this weekend in SoHo, the A$AP Mob frontman was repping the Belgian designer, wearing an oversized black puffer coat from the Raf Simons fall collection. The piece, which debuted in Paris a year ago (Simons will debut his next collection in New York next month) cuts a striking silhouette, ballooning out from the body and cutting off abruptly at the knee. If you’re a fan, you might be able to pick it up in purple.

But oversized puffers are quite the trend right now across the market. One of the poster children for them recently has been Rihanna. She’s been spotted in a bubblegum pink version from Ella Boucht as well as a reworked long puffer from Vetements. She’s even been a fan of the versions Balenciaga has sent down the runway.

Another conceptual version? The Baltimore Down orange coat that Solange wore from Acne Studios for her video “Cranes in the Sky.” The list goes on. And for what it’s worth, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

In their millennial influencer-filled show, Dolce & Gabbana sent an oversized brocade-print puffer jacket down the runway on the back of Pamela Anderson’s son, Brandon Thomas Lee. Of the almost 100 looks the brand put on the catwalk, about 5 included oversized puffers with some sort of print. And though they weren’t quite as long, Versace and Plein Sport both also sent out their own versions.

Looks like we know exactly how we’ll keep warm this season.
