Artist Makes Light Itself Dance and Play in Gorgeous GIFs

New York City is a playground for many artists, but there’s more to capture than bright and bustling streets. Photographer Lucea Spinelli captures it in a moving way.

In her series Phōtosgraphé, Spinelli takes light painting photos to new strokes by creating small animated loops. As if it has a mind of its own, the light bounces back and forth through swing sets, park benches, graffitied buses, and more.

The series explores the Greek roots of the word photography, which translates to “light writing.” However, we’d argue this light also swings, bounces, and crawls.
