Reality takes a break in stunning photography exhibit

Saying JeeYoung Lee's artwork is unique is an incredible understatement. Lee, a recent graduate of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea, shoots photographs of sets she created that were inspired by "her heart, her memory or her dreams." The results are as beautiful as they are bizarre and well worth a look.

Lee's work is currently on display at the OPIOM Gallery in Opio, France. Fortunately you don't need to book a flight to see her work. Photography critic Choi Bong-lim says, "The chances are high that Lee Jee-young will stand as one of the most significant artists in Korean art history."

One of her works, "My Chemical Romance," inspired Bong-Iim to write, "The pattern of caution and warning with black diagonal lines against yellow is repeated, obsessive-compulsively, over the floor, walls and pipe lines; and the extreme density of the pipes and steam rising from where pipes break indicates the set of a huge machine room and yet it evokes a scene from a sci-fi or an action movie Bruce Willis might have starred in." Check that one out below.

The set for all the photos is approximately 12 feet by 20 feet by 8 feet. In a written statement, the artist says, "By building the space with my personal, psychological experiences in everyday life, I try to visualize my inner world of which the meanings cannot be value-judged. My work, in essence, records my concerns and process of growing up. It narrates and dramatizes my life stories."
