Arthur Darvill: Alex Kingston calling me dad was strange

Arthur Darvill

(BANG) -

'Doctor Who' star Arthur Darvill admits it took a while to get used to being called "dad" by Alex Kingston on set.

The actor and the rest of the cast struggled to get their heads around the revelation that Alex's character River Song was the daughter of Rory - portrayed by Arthur - and Amy (Karen Gillan), especially when she started referring to them as her parents in the scripts.

Arthur exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "It was a strange thing but brilliant- it's something that sort of hits the ground running in the next episode and lots more is revealed and there are lots of questions answered in this episode coming up. But it makes sense, because that's who we are."

'Doctor Who' returns to BBC One on Saturday (27.08.11) with the episode 'Let's Kill Hitler' and as well as answering some of the fans' questions, Arthur insists it is one of the best adventures he has starred in.

He added: "I was amazed when I read the script - there's a few moments in it where I was like, 'You can't do that!' But I love it when 'Doctor Who' goes back into real historical events. I think Steven Moffat has done the best 'Doctor Who' going back to the Second World War that you could do."
