Art Works: Capital Area Modellers Society

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — On the first Thursday of each month, a group of like-minded enthusiasts meets at the Capital Area City Library to talk all things modeling.

The Capital Area Modellers Society president, Richard Davenport, said the club started with just him and one other member. In a short period, they have grown to have more than 20 members.

“Modeling tends to be a solitary activity. You’re sitting down there,” Davenport told 6 News. “Putting your pieces together by yourself and finding other people who do the same thing and are interested in it is kind of the fun right there. And then you’re able to learn from each other. This is how I do this. This is what works for me.”

It’s an exciting time for the group, recently launching a newsletter and website filled with ongoings like kit reviews, meeting recaps, and other reflections on what members are currently working on. They also hosted an open house where people of all ages came to learn about the hobby.

The Modellers Society intends to continue participating in statewide competitions where other modeling clubs gather to share their work.

Monthly meetings remain an encouraging place where everyone can explore new techniques and share creative ideas.
