Art Bash shows students the possibilities of a creative career

Emcee and Battle Creek Central graduate Kypree Taylor wasted no time in setting the tone for Thursday afternoon’s Art Bash. By the time Taylor had finished his introductions, the crowd was already singing and dancing along with him.

The energy carried through the day as students from Battle Creek Central, W.K. Kellogg Preparatory and Battle Creek STEM gathered in W.K. Kellogg Auditorium for an afternoon of art, music and conversations about creative careers.

A collaboration between the Art and Culture Collective of Battle Creek, Blvcksheep Music and local artists, the event was created as a celebration of creativity in the community. Art Bash intentionally placed the spotlight on the arts scene in Battle Creek with the hope that students could visualize their potential success in creative paths.

Three panels featuring professionals in the disciplines of visual arts, dance and music shared stories and advice, moderated by performer James McGee, who performs under the name “The Allah." Each panelist shared their own journey in the arts and words encouragement for students in the audience.

“There is so much you can do. You want to go work at Nickelodeon, you can do it,“ multimedia artist Teaira Gray told students. “Seeing that as a possibility when I was in high school would have been awesome”.
