Arrest warrant issued for Overland burglary suspect

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The St. Louis County Circuit Court has issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of breaking into an Overland HVAC business earlier this year.

According to the Overland Police Department’s probable cause statement, the break-in occurred on January 29 in the 2600 block of Woodson Avenue.

The owner of the business reported a burglary and met with police. He told officers that a safe containing $3,500 in cash and collector coins had been stolen.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the business and saw a man pull up in a Hyundai and use a hammer to break a bathroom window and enter the building. The footage also shows the man exiting the building with the safe.

A Flock camera spotted the Hyundai near the business at the time of the break-in. Police conducted a records check using the vehicle’s temporary tag and saw it was registered to an older woman.

Police shared pictures of the vehicle online and received a tip identifying the suspect as Treveone Smith. The tipster said the Hyundai belonged to Smith’s grandmother and that Smith frequently used the vehicle.

Officers went to Smith’s home and met with a woman, who told them she used to date the HVAC owner’s grandson, and informed Smith about the safe.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Smith with second-degree burglary, second-degree property damage, and stealing – $750 or more. Upon his arrest, Smith will be held on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
