Arrest in Miss Teen USA extortion attempt

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A 19-year-old man has appeared in a California courtroom to face charges of hacking webcams at the home of Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf and other women then trying to extort nude photos from them.

City News Service says Jared Abrahams was in federal court in Santa Ana on Thursday after surrendering to the FBI.

His bail was set at $50,000 and if released, he'll be confined to his Temecula home and must wear a GPS monitor. He also can't use a computer, although a judge could lift that restriction if Abrahams needs access for school.

Prosecutors claim Abrahams stole images from home computers of Wolf and other women then threatened to go public with the images unless they provided him with nude photos or videos.

Wolf alerted the FBI to the demand.
