Arrest made in ‘targeted’ southwest Charlotte school bus stop shooting: CMPD

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An arrest has been made in what police are labeling as a ‘targeted’ school bus stop shooting aimed at two teens, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

Officers responded to calls regarding the incident on March 28 at a school bus stop around 6:30 a.m. near West Arrowood Road near South Tryon Street.

An initial investigation stated that gunshots were fired by a masked suspect aimed at Palisades High School students who were waiting at a school bus stop. The gunfire did not strike them.

“Upon an initial investigation, detectives believe that the shooting was targeted and there does not appear to be any threat to the public,” CMPD said on Thursday.

Detectives were later able to identify a male suspect, who they said was a juvenile at the time of the incident, and he has been arrested and now faces multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

“There were no injuries reported,” CMS said at the time of the shooting. “Law enforcement was contacted, and an investigation is underway. While this event did not take place on our campus we encourage our students and families to remain vigilant to safety threats.”
