Arrest made months after man beaten, sexually assaulted by group

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Four months after a group of men kidnapped, beat, and sexually assaulted a man in the airport area, an arrest has been made in the case.

Rozelle Key, 53, was charged Friday with aggravated rape and especially aggravated kidnapping.

Investigators said the beating in the 2700 block of Murray Street on December 26, 2023, was captured on camera, and the victim identified Key as one of his attackers.

The victim said he was held against will for hours by three to four men, severely beaten, and sodomized with a table leg.

The victim said he was bleeding and pleading for medical help and was finally released. Police said the man had injuries all over his body.

Court records show Key was sentenced to two years of confinement at the Shelby County Correctional Center.

In 2022, Key was arrested for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle. He was charged with driving an unauthorized motor vehicle and sentenced to one day in jail with credit for time served.

Key is schedule to appear in court on Monday.
