Arrest made in deadly ‘drag race’ crash: Troup Co. Sheriff’s Office

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — Two people died in early March due to a crash investigators say was caused by drag racing. A few weeks later on Monday, April 1, an arrest has been made in the case.

Willie David Rhodes Jr., 45, of LaGrange was booked at Troup County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office. Rhodes faces the following charges:

  • “Failure to Remain in Right Lane

  • Leaving the Scene of Accident

  • Reckless Driving *2

  • Serious Injury by Vehicle *3

  • Homicide Vehicle *2

  • Laying Drag

  • Racing on Highways or Streets”

The charges stem back to March 10 at 8:56 p.m. when authorities responded to a crash on Antioch Road. Several people were injured and two adults died due to the crash.

One vehicle left the scene. The sheriff’s office says the driver of that vehicle has now been identified as Rhodes.
