Arrest made in deadly Dirk Way shooting from late 2023

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Authorities have made an arrest in a shooting from late last year.

Gregory Johnson has been charged in connection to a murder on Dirk Way back on Dec. 18, 2023, when Demetrius Heard was shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at Piedmont Columbus Regional.

According to police, Johnson is currently in jail on a different charge. He was served warrants on new charges of murder, aggravated assault, first-degree criminal damage to property, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Johnson had a hearing on Monday. His case was bound over to Superior Court.
