Arrest made in connection with Taft High School threat: police

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a social media threat made towards Taft High School in Woodland Hills on Tuesday.

According to a letter sent to parents from the Los Angeles School Police Department, law enforcement was able to identify the person responsible and determine that there was no indication that the they posed a credible threat to students and staff..

The suspect was not identified, but police confirmed they are not a Taft High School student.

The department initially said that they had “taken appropriate action” and later confirmed that an arrest was made.

“We take the safety of our students very seriously,” the police department’s letter to parents said. “Our campus remains safe and open for instruction.”

Los Angeles School Police Department officers will be providing more support and extra patrols in and around the Taft High School campus. Extra support staff will also be provided to ensure the safety of the school community, school police said.

Taft High School officials first learned of the social media post that “raised concerns about the safety of the campus” early Tuesday morning. Hundreds of parents rushed to the school to pick up their children as students hopped over fences and scaled walls to get off campus and to safety out of an abundance of caution.

The threat – which, according to one student, was posted on an Instagram account called ‘@taftcaughtslippin’ — contained a post that alleged a school shooting was going to take place during fourth period on Tuesday. Another post showed a gun on someone’s lap.

The school district reminds parents and students that they should report all behavior or statements that raise concerns to our staff or local authorities by calling the Los Angeles School Police Department’s communication center at 213-625-6631.
