The Fox Valley Chorus claimed first place at the regional Sweet Adeline competition, held May 2 to 4 in Rochester, Minnesota. The convention was attended by about 400 members from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa and Canada. Twelve choruses competed.

Fox Valley Chorus has 28 members who performed at the competition. The group opened with “Beer Barrel Polka,” wearing German costumes.

The win earns the group a 10th appearance at the Sweet Adeline International competition, to be held in October 2025. They will compete against more than 30 other choruses from across the globe.

Women singers of all ages are invited to visit the chorus when they resume their Tuesday rehearsals May 21. Rehearsals are 7 to 9 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., Neenah. The chorus has been part of the local arts community for more than 50 years.

Atlas event to benefit The Monthlies Project

Atlas Science Center, in partnership with Kimberly-Clark and The Monthlies Project, will host “You’re Awesome. Period.” 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 21 to kick-off a month-long period product drive. Donations will go to The Monthlies Project, which provides products to school-aged students in the community to battle period poverty.

Admission is “pay what you can.” Activities and stations offer a chance for attendees to explore the local history of period products, how they were marketed and the science of what the products are made of.

Treats and refreshments will be available. The event will be held at the science center, 425 W. Water St., Appleton.

Log Your Loops kicks off Memorial Day

The sixth annual Log Your Loops initiative will once again run Memorial Day through Labor Day. Hosted by Future Neenah, the goal of the event is to get people to enjoy the Loop the Little Lake Trestle Trail. The trail includes two trestle bridges that close the Lower Little Lake Butte des Morts loop traveling through the cities of Neenah, Menasha, and the Village of Fox Crossing. A full loop is 5k.

Users can Log their Loops May 27 to Sept. 2 however they use the trail from biking, running, walking or skating. Those who log 50 loops will receive a t-shirt. The program is free, but registration is required at neenah.org.

Employment Fair set for May 22 at Exhibition Center

The Fox Cities Employment Fair will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 22 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center, 355 W. Lawrence St., Appleton. Employers from a variety of industries will take part, including office, service, manufacturing, health care and more.

Employers will speak directly with job seekers about open positions, with some companies conducting on-site interviews.

Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their resume. Those who visit at least five employers will receive a free lunch. Stop at the registration table for more information. Pre-registration is not required.

Neenah’s 29th annual Summer Fun Run Series begins June 2

The Neenah Summer Fun Run Series will begin its 29th year this June. Runs are open to youth ages 14 and younger, and runners do not have to reside in Neenah.

Each run will begin at 7 p.m., with registration at 6 p.m., and take place next to the George Scherck Shelter at Memorial Park on Apple Blossom Drive. Fun Run dates are June 2, 16, and July 7, 21. Online registration is highly encouraged, and you only have to register once for the entire series. Register at neenahfunrun.com.

Age divisions are 6 and under, 6 to 9, and 10 to 14, for boys and girls. Parents are encouraged to run with the younger age groups. Youth who participate in at least two runs will receive a t-shirt and those doing all the runs will get a medal.

Annual motorcycle ride to honor veterans on Memorial Day

The Highground will host its 14th Annual Honor Ride on Memorial Day, May 27. The purpose of the ride is for motorcyclists to remember those who died in service to our country.

The ride begins at eight different sites, including Appleton, with all routes leading to American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville. Riders are welcome to join any route at one of the scheduled stops.

Riders arriving at the American Legion can take part in raffles and enjoy a meal. Riders will then line up at 2:30 p.m. to depart the Legion at 2:45 p.m. The ride will go through Neillsville ending at The Highground for a 3 p.m. gathering at the plaza for a Memorial Day ceremony.

Funds raised during the Honor Ride goes to The Highground to continue its service to veterans and their families.

Memorial Day marked with tributes, parade in Neenah-Menasha

Twin Cities veterans organizations, Menasha VFW Post 2126, Neenah American Legion Post 33, Menasha American Legion Post 152 along with the cities of Neenah and Menasha and the Village of Fox Crossing, will host the annual Memorial Day celebration on May 27

The event begins with a tribute to veterans lost at sea at 8 a.m. at the waterfront on Mill Street in Menasha. The parade will follow, starting from Second and Milwaukee streets in Menasha, proceeding into Neenah where it will end at the Ascension Clinic at Main and Doty streets. A ceremony will begin after the parade, about 10:45 a.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery in Neenah.

Following the cemetery event, the annual Car Show and Brat Fry/Bake Sale will be held at Lucky Dog’z, 157 S. Green Bay Road, Neenah. It is hosted by American Legion Post 33 of Neenah.
