Around the Track: EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix

AUSTIN, TX. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — For the first time in 2024, NASCAR is taking to the streets for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, A.K.A., COTA.

The first road test of the season gives anyone a chance to win, but only a few of these Cup Series drivers have the road skills to either extend a point lead or lock up a playoff spot with a win.

COTA is well-known for wearing down the breaks and could be an issue for drivers on Sunday.

The track is 3.4 miles long with 20 turns through Austin, Texas. Drivers will race 68 laps to total 231 miles.

NASCAR has been at COTA only since 2021. The three active drivers with wins here are Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott and Ross Chastain.

Turn one, infamously known as ‘Big Red,’ challenges drivers to an initial 133-foot climb right out of the gate. $9.7 million is up for the taking in Austin.

The race starts at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday on FOX 46 Charlotte.
