Arnold Schwarzenegger Spotted on Set of Terminator: Genesis

He's back. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been snapped on the set of Terminator: Genesis, the fifth film and sort-of meta reboot of the hit time-travelling franchise.

Sporting some leather trousers, Schwarzenegger was photographed on the first day of principal photography for the film, which is being directed by Game of Thrones and Thor: The Dark World's Alan Taylor.

Shooting began yesterday (21 April) in New Orleans, where another shot was taken of Arnie having ditched the leather for some shorts while taking a look at a crew member's camera.

Twitter account @TheArnoldFans posted the first picture and hosted the second (which came from production company Skydance's Facebook page). A third picture shows the film's clapperboard, and confirms the production title of the film as "VISTA", as in "Hasta la vista, baby" a famous line from the series.

Schwarzenegger has already been quite vocal about his return to the movie series, explaining to the Nerdist podcast why his character will have aged despite being a time-travelling robot killer.

He says: "I have human flesh, underneath is a metal skeleton - but the human flesh ages just like everyone else does. The skeleton doesn't change. So it has to be the same body, physically the same thing, even though you may have show a little grey and all those things... So it's very important that now I step it up with the workout.

"The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.

"Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie, but I feel so good."

Jason Clark will be John Connor with Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.

It has been speculated that the film will re-tread numerous scenes from Terminator and Terminator 2 before an incident that alters the film's timeline, unfolding a new series of events.

Terminator: Genesis will be released on 1 July 2015.
