Armed Robbery; Knife On Bus; Fake Gun At Burrito King: Blotter

NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent mere accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. All persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

ARMED ROBBERY
Police were called to the Marathon gas station at 7145 W. Dempster St. around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 19 for a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. A staffer told police she had been closing out the register when a man entered through the front door and brandished a small revolved. The man placed a white cloth bag on the counter and made the clerk put about $500 inside before running out of the store westbound. The man was described as a 5-foot, 10-inch man between 50 and 55 years old, with black curly hair and a thin build. He was wearing a dark blue jacket, a white surgical mask and black gloves.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 7800 block of North Odell Avenue reported that someone had burglarized their home between 7 and 11:30 p.m. on Oct. Someone stole a safe containing identity cards, $50 in cash, jewelry, two handguns, a loaded magazine and additional ammunition.

RETAIL THEFT
A pair of women or girls stole $2,345 worth of Nike-branded merchandise from the Golf Mill Center JC Penney in the form of 15 pairs of leggings, 10 jackets, and eight hooded sweatshirts before fleeing out to the Milwaukee Avenue side of the building.

THEFT
On Oct. 24, staff at a doctor's office in the 7900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue discovered an unknown number of blank prescription pads from various doctors was missing from an office cabinet drawer after getting a call about an attempted forged prescription for a substance containing an opiate.


ARRESTS

John W. Batts, 51, of the 4700 block of Ravenswood Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the CVS, 7139 N. Milwaukee Ave., and charged with forgery and acquisition or possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud or forgery after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with an attempt to fill a prescription for 473 ml of a substance containing an opiate.

Nelson M. Denis, 42, of the 8000 block of Dempster Street in Niles, was arrested around 12:22 a.m. on Oct. 19 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop for driving 67 mph in a 35 mph zone. He was also ticketed for speeding.

Nabil Mako, 54, of the 7100 block of West Carol Street in Niles, was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 and charged with domestic battery after slapping and pushing a person during an argument over money.

Nicholas R. Seruya, 31, of the 8700 block of Shermer Road in Niles, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Big Lots, 7233 W. Dempster St., and charged with unlawful use of a credit card following an investigation that revealed he pocketed a credit card as an employee. The owner of the credit card asked to drop any charges after restitution was made.

Sergey Grushkin, 52, of the 1200 block of Pleasant Run Drive in Wheeling, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 in the 8900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license. Police also noticed multiple open bottles of beer in his truck.

Bojan Petrovic, 35, of the 3500 block of Central Road in Glenview, was arrested around 3 a.m. on Oct. 20 in the 9300 block of Milwaukee Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and DUI with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or above following a traffic stop for driving 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. He admitted to having three or four beers and was also issued a citation for speeding 26 to 34 mph over the limit.

Nathan A. Estes, 38, of the 5700 block of North Mason Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 and charged with retail theft from the Target, 6150 W. Touhy Ave., after store staff noticed him enter the electronics area and remove a pair of $150 headphones by cutting the packaging with a knife from his pants. He placed the box down the front of his pants and was arrested after walking out of the store.

Derrick E. Dumnicki, 26, of the 400 block of Warren Road in Glenview, was arrested around 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 21 in the 7400 block of West Seward Street and charged with criminal trespassing to a vehicle, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after police were called to a car burglary in progress. They found him sitting in the driver's site of a car with the door open. He was found to have about 4 pills in his jacket, a pipe, rolling papers and suspected marijuana.

Jason L. Lenzini, 51, of the 100 block of Kathleen Drive in Park Ridge, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 after he was arrested by Park Ridge police on a warrant issued from Niles.

Ryan Marcopoulos, 28, of the 4900 block of Carol Street in Skokie, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 27 near the intersection of Gross Point Road and Lehigh Avenue after a traffic crash and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more. He was also issued a citation for possession of about 7 grams of cannabis found in a backpack in the trunk of his vehicle.

David H. Thorburn, 51, of the 400 block of Verde Drive in Schaumburg, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop for improper lane usage.

John Paleothodoros, 52, of the 300 block of Preserve Drive in Wood Dale, was arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 28 in the 8400 block of Dempster Street on five arrest warrants after he was involved in a traffic crash. They included one from Lake County for theft and four for failure to appear in DuPage County court.

William D. Barkho, 32, of the 8000 block of West Lyons Street in Niles, and Brianna M. Washington, 21, of the 6400 block of North Claremont Avenue in Chicago, were arrested following an incident around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 at the Burrito House, 9001 N. Milwaukee Ave. Police were told Barkho claimed to have a gun and was seen leaving in a dark colored minivan. Officers pulled over the vehicle in the area of Woodland Drive and Davis Street. Barkho told police he had used his cell phone in his pocket to display it like a gun and knocked it on the glass and pointed it at a group of people. He was charged with assault, battery and disorderly conduct. Washington was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police.

Antonio Olagues, 21, of the 9900 block of Holly Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested around 2 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the Niles Police Department after a warrant was issued for theft in connection with an investigation that showed him on security video on several occasions stealing a total of $522,43.

Nebojsa Denikov, 56, of the 9000 block of Cumberland Avenue in Niles, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 and charged with retail theft and criminal trespassing at the Home Depot, 8650 Dempster St., after staff said he stole about $105 worth of tools from the store.

Ivelisse Joan Valle, 28, of the 3900 block of West Dickens Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 after police responded to a call of a disturbance on a PACE bus involving two passengers, including one who had a knife. Both passengers told police they had a fight over closing a window on the bus that involving breaking a man's chain. The man said Valle punched him and pulled a knife. She was also found with about 7 grams of cannabis. Valle was charged with battery, unlawful use of a weapon, criminal damage to property and cited for possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

Javonte D. Murff, 25, of the 3200 block of St. Charles Road in Bellwood, was arrested around 9:41 p.m. on Oct. 31 at the Niles Police Department after Illinois State Police called to say they had arrested a man on a Niles warrant for burglary of vehicle parts of accessories following a traffic stop in Downers Grove.
