What’s Arlington Heights going to do if the Bears decide to stay in Chicago?

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — If the Chicago Bears are staying put downtown, then what does that mean for the Arlington Heights community?

The Village of Arlington Heights said on Monday that the Bears’ interest in the Arlington Park property hasn’t changed, but the team’s organizational focus will be on sites in Chicago.

This comes after the Bears and three school districts hit a roadblock over short-term property taxes in Arlington Heights. The conversation has been focused on what the Bears will pay before development occurs at the site.

The village released its proposal from late February presented to both the Bears and the school districts. A figure less than the Cook County Board of Review landed on, which was about $9 million, according to Arlington Heights.

In the village’s proposal, the Bears would pay $6.3 million for 2023 and $3.6 million in 2024.

Arlington Heights said it has not received a response from the Bears or the School Districts, but it’s hoping the two sides can come to an agreement on this so it can begin the process of due diligence to see if a Bears move to Arlington Heights is in the village’s best interest.
