Arkansas US Sen. John Boozman having surgery

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — U.S. Sen. John Boozman is undergoing surgery at an Arkansas hospital.

Boozman's office issued only a brief statement Tuesday morning saying the Republican "is receiving excellent care."

Boozman's staff wouldn't say what type of surgery the 62-year-old senator is having but that more information will be released later.

The state's junior senator had been scheduled for an 8 a.m. appearance in Gravette to discuss a highway project and health care. In the afternoon, he was to have spoken at a rural health center in Green Forest and at a housing agency in Harrison.
