Arkansas State Police investigating deadly shooting in Scott County

WALDRON, Ark. – Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office have requested the Arkansas State Police to investigate a deadly Wednesday evening shooting.

Deputies said that they responded to a call at approximately 5:45 p.m. to a home located on AR-250 where they found 69-year-old Russell Lewellen shot multiple times.

Arkansas State Police investigating two claims of improper use of force by law enforcement

Lewellen was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

SCSO deputies said that they arrested a 34-year-old Waldron man who is being held at the Scott County Detention Center and is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Lewellen’s body has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime lab to determine his cause of death.
