Which Arkansas State Parks will be best to see the eclipse?

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (KNWA/KFTA) — With the eclipse less than two months away, many are planning to flock to the many state parks in Arkansas but which ones are in the path of totality?

Half of the 54 parks are in the path of totality. Here are the five with the longest durations of totality, according to Arkansas State Parks.

Buffalo National River prepares for solar eclipse

Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area

Located in Wickes, Cossatot will have the longest duration in the path of totality with 4 minutes and 18.5 seconds, according to Arkansas State Parks. The partial eclipse will start just before 12:30 p.m. with the total eclipse at 1:47 p.m. The maximum eclipse will happen two minutes later.

Petit Jean State Park

Just behind Cossatot is Petit Jean in Morrilton with 4 minutes and 15 seconds of totality. Arkansas’s first state park is expected to be a popular spot for eclipse viewers, the department says. The partial eclipse will begin at 1:50 p.m. and will reach maximum eclipse two minutes later.

Ozark Folk Center State Park

The Ozark Folk Center, located in Mountain View, will have 4 minutes and 13 seconds of totality. The partial eclipse will start at 12:35 p.m. and the total eclipse will happen just before 2 p.m. The department says it’s worth keeping an eye out for live music and events that could entertain eclipse viewers.

Mount Nebo State Park

Mount Nebo in Dardanelle will experience 4 minutes and 10 seconds of totality. Just 45 minutes away from wine country, Mount Nebo will reach full totality at 1:51 p.m. Arkansas State Parks says to pack the mountain bike, so you can hit the many trails at the park.

Lake Dardanelle State Park

Not far from Mount Nebo, Lake Daradanelle in nearby Russellville will get 4 minutes and 8 seconds of totality. The partial eclipse will start at 12:33 p.m. and reach full totality at 1:52 p.m. Before, after or even during the eclipse, attendees can kayak on the lake.
