Arkansas candidate Mike Norvell signs extension to stay at Memphis
Mike Norvell, who has been connected with quite a few openings during this coaching cycle, is staying at Memphis.
Norvell, in just his second season at Memphis, announced himself Tuesday that he has signed a contract extension to remain at the school. Terms of the agreement were not immediately available.
Norvell has an 18-7 record in two seasons with the Tigers and won the AAC West division this year, losing in double-overtime to undefeated Central Florida in the conference championship game on Saturday.

Norvell was most prominently connected to the opening at Arkansas. Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported Monday that Norvell’s name was being connected to the Arkansas and Tennessee openings. Thamel also mentioned Norvell and his “wide-open style and quick tempo” could be a fit at Oregon, where Willie Taggart left for the Florida State gig.
Norvell, 36, was Todd Graham’s offensive coordinator at Tulsa, Pittsburgh and Arizona State before replacing Justin Fuente at Memphis after Fuente took the Virginia Tech job.
The Tigers (10-2) will face Iowa State (7-5) in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 30.
