Arizona toddler in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself in Mesa home

A toddler is in critical condition after he shot himself in the head, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

It was not immediately clear how the toddler got the gun and if adults were present.

The Sheriff's Office said they received a call for a service around 3:40 p.m. near East Main Street and South Crismon Road. They said they were told a 3-year-old had shot himself in the head.

The toddler was transported to the hospital with "life threatening injuries" according to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies said they are investigating the incident, and no more information was available for release as of Thursday evening.
