PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a man's pet emu is dead after it escaped from its home and was chased around a suburban Phoenix neighborhood.
Tempe police and workers from the Phoenix Zoo tried to corral the bird as it ran wild in the area of McKellips Road and College Avenue.
Police say the bird didn't belong to the zoo and that the private owner had "Ichabod" for 35 years.
KNXV-TV (http://bit.ly/18yE3Pc ) says the emu was tackled by police officers, but apparently succumbed to the heat.
