Area news in brief for March 15

AHS 1956 – Alliance High School Class of 1956 plans its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. March 19 at Don Pancho’s Tex-Mex Cafe, 2105 State St. in Alliance. All members, spouses and friends are invited to attend.

SWISS STEAK – Smith Grange, 11090 Beloit Snodes Road, plans its monthly Swiss steak dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Call for reservations to 330-257-2980 or 330-614-3846.

MARLBORO TRUSTEES – Marlboro Township trustees’ next regular meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday at Marlboro Town Hall. Trustees plan a town hall meeting at 4 p.m. Sunday at Town Hall to discuss the future of solar development.

BELOIT MEETING – Beloit City Council’s Park Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 25 at Beloit Village Hall. A Safety Committee meeting will follow at 7 p.m., and a Grant Committee meeting will follow that at 7:30 p.m.

BOOK/BAKE SALE – Friends of Rodman Public Library plan a meeting and mini book/bake sale for March 23. The combined annual membership and board meeting will be 10 a.m. in Rodman Public Library’s Auditorium. Immediately after, a mini book sale and bake sale will be held in the children’s program room. The sale will include children’s books, hardback fiction, biographies, gardening, large print and hardback non-fiction. Puzzles, games and sheet music also will be available. All items will be sold by donation.

WOMEN IN WHITE – Second Baptist Church, 820 E. Patterson St. in Alliance, will play host to the 26th annual 100 Women in White Praise and Worship Celebration. The event will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The late Eunice Waiters founded the event as a way to bring women from different congregations together to sing and worship God. Each year, the women prepare and put on an uplifting performance while dressed in all white to symbolize purity before God as they praise Him through music. AACH TEENS – Aultman Alliance Community Hospital has announced a summer teen program for high school students ages 16 to graduation. The 2024 program will run June 10 through Aug. 9. Not an internship or shadow program, students will gain non-clinical experience in a hospital setting while helping others. Students can apply at aultmanalliance.org/about/giving-back from Monday through May 14. Student applicants must commit to a minimum of six hours per week. They will be assigned to open volunteer positions throughout the hospital. Only students of the summer program will be permitted to volunteer at AACH throughout the calendar year. ULSTER PROJECT – Alliance Area Ulster Project is seeking host families in the Greater Alliance area for the 2024 program. Teenagers from Northern Ireland arrive June 28 and will depart July 18. Organizers say hosting families would have teenagers ages 14-17. Organizers also are taking applications for two counselors who are 21 and older to assist with the three-week project.
