ARDOT kicks off National Work Zone Awareness Week

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is kicking off National Work Zone Awareness Week Monday.

It will begin with a press event and announcing plans for a memorial for fallen construction workers in Arkansas.

Nearly 30 workers have died in the line of duty, and ARDOT spokesperson Dave Parker said this campaign is important because the numbers of not only worker deaths, but driver deaths is alarming.

This is the third year of the campaign and Parker said although he’s seen a decrease since they started, there is still more work to be done.

ARDOT will be releasing more safety equipment, event including green-light vehicles, lane blade devices, and gator getters; but also wants to remind drivers to remain vigilant while driving and minimize distractions.

ARDOT expects tens of millions in penalties for I-30 contractor

ARDOT will be joined by industry partners that include the Arkansas Chapter of the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), the Associated General Contractors of Arkansas (AGC), the Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA), the Arkansas Good Roads Foundation and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
