From the Archives: May 11 in the Pioneer

May 11—May 11, 2014 — Two generations of the same family graduated from Bemidji State University this week, as mother and daughter Rima Keprios and Chloe Keprios took part in BSU's 95th commencement ceremony at the Sanford Center. Rima received her degree in geography and regional planning, while Chloe earned a degree in business administration.

May 11, 1999 — Local bait shops are gearing up for the upcoming fishing opener, stocking up on nightcrawlers, redworms and other bait types. It's expected that some anglers won't even be waiting until the early hours of the morning to cast their first line, but that they'll take advantage of the opener the minute the clock strikes midnight.

May 11, 1974 — The annual sale of Girl Scout cookies by the local troop has come to an end, with hundreds of boxes expected to be delivered later this week. Gayle Zimmerman, a fourth-grader at Central School, took home the prize for selling the most cookies this year, having successfully sold 187 boxes.

May 11, 1924 — The Tenstrike Baseball Team will compete against Bemidji's later this week, traveling to the city for the game. The Bemidji team has performed very well so far this season and is expected to have an edge on the visiting athletes. Community members are encouraged to attend the game and cheer on the sport.
