New accommodation has been built at the top end of the village, convenient for the lifts. We know of no catered chalets here.

Hotels

There are about a dozen hotels. A visitor endorses a previous recommendation of the ‘brilliant’ and well-placed four-star Sporthotel for its ‘exceptional food’ and ‘traditional Tirolean style’. The Evaldo is ‘thoroughly recommended’; the Malta too – ‘central, excellent food, very spacious rooms’.

Apartments

Self-catering accommodation is available.

Eating out

Restaurant choice is limited. The central hotels all have busy restaurants. Recent reporters praised the hotel Pordoi restaurant for its ‘good pizzas’. Also rated are Miky’s Grill in the hotel Mesdì and Al Table, serving everything from simple pasta and great pizzas to well-cooked steak. The Stube Ladina in the Alpenrose hotel has been recommended in the past. You can be ferried by snowmobile up the mountain to Rif Plan Boè for dinner and dancing; or arrive at 4pm and sit tight.

Mountain restaurants

There’s lots of choice; most places are lively and welcoming, and many have great views, of course. One lift-ride from the village, Rif Burz was beautifully rebuilt in 2013 in a modern but woody style; ‘good food, fast service’; there’s pole dancing at après time, we hear. The lively Rif Plan Boè, nearby, has ‘good food and a traditional feel’, but a reporter judges the prices higher than others. Rif Fodom just below Passo Pordoi is ‘bright and bustling, with good food, service and views’. The smart self-service Cesa da Fuoch at the mid-station of the Porta Vescovo gondola has excellent fresh-cooked pasta. At the top, the smart self-service Luigi Gorza reportedly has good food as well as views, and there is now a serious, very pricey table-service place there too – Viel dal Pan. On the way to Marmolada, Capanna Bill is a cosy spot with friendly service offering ‘excellent value’.

Après

The après is fairly limited. On the way back from Corvara, there is some action in the huts – Plan Boè and Burz. The ‘Austrian-style’ Bar Peter ‘gets very busy post-ski’; Mister X is another option. Bar Heidi is more sophisticated: ‘good for an early evening drink – smart, drinks served with canapés’.

Off the slopes

Off-slope diversions are few. There are some shops and cafes, and there’s a small ice rink. Snowmobiling and snowshoeing are available.
