You'd be within reason to be worried about DC's upcoming solo title Aquaman, but if we go by what Amber Heard is telling us, we think everything is going to be okay.

Ahead of that long-awaited trailer drop, Amber Heard – who plays Queen of Atlantis Mera – has promised that the film is going to "honour the comic books".

And that's a good thing, right?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Amber reflected on what drew her to Mera as a character and how she's used DC's source material to shape one of the more underrated superheroes.

"We wanted to honour the comic books, I wanted to stick with how she's depicted in the comic books in a superficial way," she said. "I wanted to go full comic book as to how she looks."

She added: "It's in the nuance of her personality where I wanted to push the boundaries," insisting that Mera will not just be "making bubbles".

On why she joined the DCEU, Amber said it was the fact that Mera was her own, independent character that resonated with her.

Recalling a scene in the comic books where Mera joins Aquaman to save a village, the actress said: "She has an equal part... and these civilians turn to each other and say, 'Who is that? Is that Aquawoman?'

"And she says something to the effect of, 'No, I have my own name, my name is Mera.'"

Dare we say it, but um, Wonder Woman who?

Aquaman will be released in cinemas on December 14, and its first trailer is expected to come very soon.
